“The learner knows best” - Ogden Lindsley
Our mission is to build supportive learning communities for learners and their families, guided by skilled and caring professionals.
Our focus is on empowering the communities surrounding each learner through ethical, evidence-based ABA practice and structured educational support.
We offer ABA consultation, targeted intervention services, and professional training programs designed to build meaningful skills and strengthen families and professionals alike.
Our services are available in English, Arabic, and French.
What do we do?
At The Learning Community, we design learning systems that support meaningful and measurable growth.
We combine educational practice and behavioral science to assess, design, and implement individualized programs across academic, functional, and social domains. Our focus is not simply behavior reduction, but the development of foundational tool skills and component abilities that allow larger competencies to grow.
Our work is guided by ethical practice, data-informed decision making, and respect for learner assent. We prioritize engagement, readiness, and sustainable progress.
We collaborate closely with families, schools, and professionals to strengthen the systems surrounding each learner.
Because when the community understands the learner, the learner thrives.
What is applied behavior analysis?
ABA is a scientific approach to understanding behavior. It refers to a set of principles that focus on how behaviors change, or are affected by the environment, and how learning takes place.
ABA services can benefit children and adults with diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder, developmental disorders, language deficits, Down Syndrome, and many others. However, a diagnosis is not necessary to receive treatment. Areas of concern in typically developing children can also be targeted (e.g., help with toilet training).
The goal of ABA is to promote the acquisition of skills needed to participate successfully in daily activities and most importantly, to improve quality of life.
What is assent?
At TLC, we follow a learner led, assent-based model of instruction.
Assent generally refers to a person’s willingness to participate.
In ABA, we consider assent to be the learner’s active and voluntary participation in therapy.
While ethical guidelines require us to obtain consent—typically provided by a parent or legal guardian—assent focuses on the learner’s own willingness to engage in the therapeutic process.
Assent means that learner participation is voluntary and free from coercion.
Assent is a continuous process. It requires ongoing monitoring of the learner’s comfort, engagement, and willingness to participate.
